Wind Cave
National Park
For more than a hundred years, wind issuing from the depths of Wind Cave has tantalized explorers and visitors alike. Driven by changes in barometric pressure, the strong breeze indicates that only a small fraction of the cave has actually been found. One of the most complex three-dimensional maze caves in the world, Wind Cave is truly a sight to behold.
Grotto members assist park management with exploration as well as a variety of projects including restoration and science trips. There are also three recreational routes that are used on occasion for introductory cave trips. All trips in Wind Cave require a valid, signed permit and must be led by a current trip leader.
